To connect the SMART board and projector to your laptop- With integrated boards (projector connected to board) turn on the power button on the controller.
- For rooms with a separate LCD projector, turn on the LCD projector with your remote or pushing the power button directly on the LCD projector.
- Attach the VGA cable with the white adapter to your video port on the laptop
- Plug in the audio cable connected to your VGA cable into the headphone jack on the laptop
- Connect the USB cable from the SMART board to a USB port on your laptop
- The lights on the pen tray and on the right side of the board will flash when the USB cable is connected to the laptop. The light will become solid green with a successful connection.

Troubleshooting TIPS
If the light on the right hand side of the board keeps flashings do the following: - Unplug the USB cable and plug it into the other USB port on the laptop
- Run the connection wizard: Go to the computer's Applications folder, Open SMART board drivers, and open control panel.Click on connection wizard and continue. The connection will run and usually find the board (there will be a message that a board was found and a check mark) Close the windows.
- If the connection wizard does not find the board, restart computer, and unplug USB cable, audio cable, and video cable.
- After computer restarts, plug all cables back in to the compute
- If the computer does not connect automatically run the connection wizard one more time.
- If still not successful, open SMART board tools, click on Control Panel, click on About Software and Product Support on the left, click on Tools then Diagnostics. With Diagnostics open pull down the Service menu at the top of the finder and select Stop Service. Wait a few seconds and select Start Service.
- Other things to check, does the USB cable appear to be connected to the back of the board, are all cables and plugs connected.
- If you are still having problems contact district technology staff for further help.
CLEANINGThese boards are durable and well made, do not be afraid to use them and have students use them. The biggest enemy to the boards are liquids and sharp objects.
Here are some general guidelines. - Do not use magnets or any type of marker (including dry erase) on your SMART board.
- Do not use sharp writing instruments such as ballpoint or fine-pointed pens, which can damage the surface if they’re applied with heavy pressure.
- Do not use adhesive tape on your interactive whiteboard, because removing the tape can damage the top layer of the writing surface (this would be Sticky notes too)
Cleaning the SMART board - Before you clean your SMART Board interactive whiteboard, shut down or disconnect the connected computer so that you don’t scramble desktop icons or inadvertently start programs when you wipe the screen.
- Erase dry-erase ink from the writing surface as soon as possible. The longer dry-erase ink remains, the more difficult it is to remove.
- Before using a cleaner, remove excess dry-erase ink residue from the writing surface with a damp cloth.
- **Do not use abrasive chemicals or cleaners on your interactive whiteboard.
- Use an alcohol-free household glass cleaner, such as Windex® glass cleaner, to clean the writing surface.
- Do not spray cleaner directly onto the surface. Instead, lightly spray cleaner on a cloth, and then gently wipe the screen.
- Do not allow excess glass cleaner to flow into the crack between the lower frame and the writing surface, or into the pen tray recesses.
- If you can still see ink marks after cleaning the surface with Windex glass cleaner, use a dry-erase marker cleaner, such as Sanford Expo whiteboard cleaner.
- For stubborn stains, use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to clean the writing surface
Removing Permanent Marker Ink Stains Solution One - Rub a commercial cleaner such as Sanford Expo whiteboard cleaner over the permanent ink stain, allow the solution to dry, and then wipe the surface clean with a soft cloth.
Solution Two - Use a standard or high-odor dry-erase marker. These markers contain solvents that remove permanent ink. Don’t use low-odor or non-scented dry-erase markers, because they don't contain the appropriate solvents.
1. Cover the permanent ink with the high-odor dry-erase ink. 2. While the ink is still wet, wipe the screen with a soft cloth. NOTE: Do not allow the dry-erase ink to dry before wiping the screen. 3. If any trace of ink remains, spray Windex glass cleaner or Sanford Expo whiteboard cleaner on a soft cloth, and then wipe
